History The city of Moradabad is situated at the bank of river Ram Ganga (a tributary to the great Ganges), in Uttar Pradesh, at a distance of 167 kilo meters from national capital New Delhi. The city was established in 16th century by Prince Murad Bux, the son of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, hence its name Moradabad.

Geography Geographically the city is situated in western U.P. between 28°-21´ to 28°-16´ Latitude North and 78°- 4´ to 79 Longitude East. The Moradabad District is spread across 3493 Sq. Km. area. Its total population is 27,61,620, with approx 14,94,220 male and 12,67,400 females. The total population of the district amounts to be 18,77,570 and the rest 8,84,040 is urban population. The Moradabad District is divided into 6 Tehsils & 13 Blocks. Total no. of Nyay Panchayats in the district are 87 while Gram Sabhas stands at 883. The total populated villages are 1388.

Approach The city is well connected with other parts of the country by rail and road both and also avails from its location on National Highway. The total no. of Railway Stations (including Halts) are 29. Total length of Broad Gauge line is 219 Km. The total no. of Post Offices are 226 out of which 42 are in urban area while 184 in rural area.

Commerce Today’s Moradabad is famous for manufacturing and export of brass handicrafts throughout the world, especially in North America and Europe. The brass work is the main earning resource for most of the population here which is engaged in creation of various brass articles such as brass wares, jewelry, trophies to the perfection. It is also called Brass City for this specialty. Some other works such as Iron sheet metal wares, aluminum artworks, and glassware are among the modern trades taking shape on demand from foreign buyers. Mentha is also exported in a large quantity globally from here. Moradabad is one of the seven industrial corridors declared by the State Government, in UP.

Late Master Fida Hussain Narsi of Moradabad, recepient of Avadh Samman, has devoted his life for Parsi theater.
